This is Roslagen

The name Roslagen comes from the word “rodzlag” which in coastal Uppland is an old word for a rowing crew of warrior oarsmen. Roslagen includes the municipalities of Vaxholm, Österåker, Norrtälje and Östhammar – previously coastal parishes in Uppland.

Welcome to Vaxholm

Vaxholm, called the archipelago’s “capital”, is the gateway to Roslagen from Stockholm. The town is a hub for boats travelling to the central and northern archipelago – Roslagen’s archipelago. Vaxholm’s municipality includes about 70 islands.

Welcome to Österåker

The Roslagen rail line from Stockholm takes you to the centre of southern Roslagen, Åkersberga, located in the municipality of Österåker, 30 km north-east of Stockholm. Here you’ll find attractive surroundings, outdoor pursuits, nature and, of course, the archipelago.

Welcome to Norrtälje

Roslagen’s principal town is Norrtälje, an idyllic little town with authentic houses and a medieval road network. There are quaint shops and larger chains, restaurants and cafés, art galleries, museums and exciting events – all year round!

Welcome to Östhammar

Östhammar received its town charter in 1368, when it was known as Hamar. Today, its well-preserved wooden buildings, cosy centre and lush green gardens form the hub of Östhammar municipality. Restaurants and small shops frame Rådhustorget, the town’s cobblestone square.

Welcome to Öregrund

Öregrund is a picturesque summer town with a thriving entertainmentscene. Many restaurants, cafés, exhibitions and small antique and small craft shops surround the harbour. Don’t miss the guided walking tours and Öregrundsmåndag (entertainment put on by prominent locals) near the lightship Västra Banken.

Welcome to Grisslehamn

Grisslehamn on Väddö is a lovely little archipelago community with boating, fishing and many summer guests. Construction of the post office began here in 1755. The post was brought here from Stockholm to be transported over to the Åland islands. In memory of the hardships of these postmen, a boat festival is held every summer.
